That said, going through the actual schooling process can be challenging for many students. Tip #1. Ask Questions Often<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As a student, it\u2019s completely normal to ask questions \u2013 and in all honesty, instructors prefer it when students ask questions, since it shows they\u2019re engaged and care about getting things right. If you don\u2019t understand something, don\u2019t be afraid to ask for additional clarification. Having a clear understanding of a concept, term, or technique is the only way you\u2019ll feel confident and comfortable as a dental assistant working in a real practice. Don\u2019t be surprised if others in your class are grateful that you asked for clarification, either!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tip #2. Make Note-Taking Easier<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

All of us learn differently; some of us prefer to take notes the old-fashioned way, with a pen and notepad, and some prefer to rapidly type away on a laptop. Others prefer to record their lectures, and there are also those who can quietly sit there and absorb PowerPoint slide after PowerPoint slide with seemingly magical photographic memories. No matter your style or your preferences, find a note-taking method that works for you and do what you can to make things easier. There\u2019s no right or wrong way, as long as you\u2019re doing it and using those notes to ace every exam!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tip #3. Build a Support Network<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Having a support system can make a significant difference in your dental assistant school experience. Connect with your classmates, as they understand exactly what you\u2019re going through and can offer support, advice, or even notes on those days when you\u2019re unable to make it to class. Networking with professionals in the field can also open doors for future career opportunities. Additionally, keep in touch with family and friends who can provide encouragement and motivation \u2013 you aren\u2019t in this alone!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tip #4. Take Care of Yourself<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

No matter what type of schooling you\u2019re pursuing, taking care of yourself is imperative for success. This means getting plenty of sleep each night, eating three square meals each day, and keeping up with your personal hygiene. As a dental assistant, you\u2019ll need to be on top of your game \u2013 and if you\u2019re hungry, exhausted, or unable to take care of yourself, you won\u2019t be able to retain information, take notes, or correctly practice what you learn in the classroom. Go to bed early, show up early, bring snacks and a water bottle with you to class, and do whatever else you must to ensure that you\u2019re showing up ready to learn and improve every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
